Historically schools have existed to teach children to listen, be quiet, and all learn the same thing at the same time. This format works okay for many but inevitably there are those that are more advanced, being held back, and others that are struggling to keep up and are and often overlooked. Many times these children become disruptive and are labeled as troublesome. Dr. Montessori found that if you appropriately challenge a child and allow them to advance at their own pace, they become very motivated and independently challenge themselves. A child is like a sponge, the younger they are, the easier it is for them to grow and excel.

It is an enriching experience to witness a child’s self-confidence and skills skyrocket as they progress and achieve success! Children in our school wear uniforms, learn manners, virtues, and as young as two years old have been able to master the capitals to the fifty states, learn their sounds and begin doing addition. At AmeriMont Academy, our slogan is: “An Enriched Montessori Environment” because we include the proven Montessori method along with other proven teaching strategies. As a true Montessori school, we have students at different ages and stages of development together in the same environment. For example, in Language, one student may be reading and writing three letter words, another may be learning their sounds, another might be able to write their first and last name and yet another student may not even know the difference from an “a” to “z”. This benefits both students by enabling the younger one to learn from an individual they can relate to, and to reinforce the learning in the older child. It builds confidence in both and benefits socially as well, preparing them for life in a world where everyone is unique.

Teachers must be knowledgeable in the child and the materials to know what is appropriate for the child at their stage in learning and to introduce them to the materials that are best suited for them. Montessori children are exposed to a more positive approach to learning through self-paced challenges and accomplishments. Without being compared to others, the child thrives and becomes increasingly motivated. When done correctly, the Montessori Method instills confidence, self-discipline and a positive attitude toward learning.
